The Caledon Hawks Total Health Pharmacy Minor Peewee A team defeated Brampton 5-4 in dramatic fashion with a last minute goal by Alexander Cowper.
Caledon opened the scoring early when Chris Rosati forced a turnover and shot at the net. The rebound was picked up by Nicholas Martel, whose shot led to another rebound that was put in by Rosati. The Hawks opened up a 2-0 lead after Cowper tipped in a point shot by Nathan Ellis. The second assist went to Matthew Ficele.
AP call up player Matthew Impey (Caledon Hawks Atom A team) scored his first goal off a pass by Michael Karrangus, making the score 3-1 early in the second. Brampton stormed back taking a one goal lead late in the second period. Head coach Duncan Ellis provided some inspiring words for the team before the start of the third period. It seemed to work, as a nice passing play between Ellis, Ryan Griffin and Martel led to a goal by Martel. The two teams battled throughout the third period until the Cowper goal secured the win for the Hawks.
The “Spartan Award”aka the “LawnMart Hardest Working Player of the Game Award” and the “Supreme Financial Best Pass of the Game Award” went to call up player Matthew Impey. His speed and accurate passes were an asset for the Hawks.
The Caledon Hawks played Wellington recently and lost 2-0. Goaltender Steven Nelson provided some fantastic saves in the second period to keep his team within reach as Wellington went up 1-0. In the third period, the Hawks had a couple of chances to tie the game but were unable to capitalize. Nelson made a few more clutch saves, including a nice pad save on a two on one, but in the end a lack of quality shooting opportunities meant the Hawks were kept off the score sheet.
The “LawnMart Hardest Working Player of the Game Award” went to Ryan Griffin. The “Supreme Financial Best Pass of the Game Award” went to Jonathan Ferguson.
