Two stolen cars abandoned during string of thefts

By Heather Abrey, Enterprise Staff
Two stolen cars were abandoned in Caledon and a third taken from a driveway on Country Stroll Crescent in Bolton during the early morning hours of Jan. 26.

A homeowner on Pineview Crescent contacted Caledon OPP at 1 a.m. after a Chevrolet Impala crashed through a neighbour’s fence. The officers determined that the vehicle was stolen from an address in Brampton earlier in the evening. Two male suspects, approximately 5’8” to 5’10” wearing dark clothing, were seen running from the vehicle towards Wakely Boulevard.

During the same time period two males were also seen on Terrastone Court stealing from unlocked vehicles. The suspects were reportedly driving a grey Honda Civic that had been stolen from a residence in Woodbridge. OPP later located the Civic abandoned on Natureway Court. Several GPS units, a digital camera, a pair of sunglasses and a brand new, pink Disney Princess bicycle and helmet were recovered with the vehicle.

At approximately 7:45 a.m. a homeowner on Country Stroll Crescent reported that his black 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck was stolen from the driveway overnight.

“The officers who are working on the incidents are working under the belief that they’re all related,” said Caledon OPP Constable Jonathan Beckett, adding that investigators believe it likely that the pickup truck was stolen by the same suspects who abandoned the first two vehicles and stole from unlocked cars. “[The pickup truck] was recovered in Brampton... I believe. A few days after it was reported stolen it was recovered.”

Once again police are reminding residents to lock their vehicles and either remove any valuables, or secure them in the trunk. “Those people wouldn’t have been victimized had they had their vehicles locked and all their stuff removed,” said Beckett, who wasn’t aware of any reports of vehicle windows being smashed during the time period the thieves were about.

Among the recovered items was a brand new Disney princess bicycle and helmet.

“It was apparently a brand new bike in a box... certainly something that, if it was stolen from somebody in Bolton, I’m sure they would like to get it back, and we can certainly make arrangements to get it back to them,” said Beckett. “Some people will steal anything.”

These incidents are still under investigation and police are asking anyone with information to phone Caledon OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or (905) 584-2241. Anonymous tips can be left through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or online at www.sdm-crimestoppers.com.
